Anton Simm, attribuito, Jablonec Nad Nisou (Gablonz), Boemia del nord, Sudeti, 1820- 25, periodo biedermeier. Affascinante e molto raro calice realizzato per la massoneria, con i caratteristici simboli. Mirabilmente molata una sensuale ninfa si specchia,  contrapposta ad un centurione romano. In basso il leone, simbolo del potere rappresentato dalle tre corone imperiali  della triplice alleanza vincente contro Napoleone (Austria, Prussia, Russia); a sinistra la piramide, simbolo massonico dell'ordine degli Illuminati.  Monogramma J B. La massoneria (definita anche Arte Reale), è un’associazione iniziatica e di fratellanza a base etica e morale che si propone come patto etico-morale tra persone libere. Un patto da intendersi non come un’operatività socio-politica, ma come tensione collettiva, di tutti gli affiliati all'associazione, alla via di perfezionamento delle più elevate condizioni dell’umanità.

Signifcato di alcuni simboli massonici contenuti in quest'opera:

La piramide - Simbolo dell'ordine degli Illuminati. L'ordine degli illuminati venne fondato a Ingolstadt (Germania) il 1 maggio del 1776 dal Gesuita Johann Adam Weishaupt (1748-1830 – di origine ebraica e quindi convertito al Cattolicesimo), che era docente di diritto canonico all’Università dei Gesuiti di Ingolstadt, assieme agli studenti Anton von Massenhausen (1758-1815) e Max Merz (1758-1807). Adam Weishaupt professava idee occulte infatti sosteneva che «ogni uomo capace di trovare in se stesso la Luce Interiore… diventa eguale a Gesù, ossia Uomo-Re…», e che Dio è ogni cosa: «…tutte le religioni si fondano sull’impostura e le chimere, che tutte finiscono per rendere l’uomo debole, strisciante e superstizioso, che tutto, nel mondo, è materia e che Dio e il mondo non sono che un’unica cosa» . L’organizzazione della setta era simile a quella massonica, aveva struttura piramidale e diversi gradi di iniziazione a cui corrispondeva una consapevolezza progressiva dei segreti della setta e un maggiore potere.Vicini alla Massoneria, avevano lo scopo di creare un unico governo mondiale portando le nazioni all’eliminazione di ogni forma di governo e di religione già esistente. In altre parole, creare un nuovo ordine mondiale

 - la Squadra simboleggia la morale, la rettitudine e la determinazione d’intenti, in altre parole rappresenta una regola immutabile e un obbligo.

- Il Sole, adorato da quasi tutti i popoli antichi simboleggia la saggezza, l’amore e l’intelletto.

 - La Luna, rappresenta anche l’idea di mediazione tra le forze che interagiscono nel cosmo dato che la sua superficie riflette la luce del Sole.

 - La Cazzuola è uno dei più importanti simboli massonici e sta a indicare la volontà di andare in soccorso del prossimo quando è in difficoltà. Simboleggia quindi la beneficenza e la carità insita nell’uomo

- La stella rappresenta Dio e la divina provvidenza.

- Le sfere sulla colonna rappresentano l'umanità e la civiltà

Anton Simm, nato il 3 giugno 1799 a Jablonec nad Nisou, ridente centro della Boemia settentrionale, nel cuore della regione dei Monti dei Giganti in cui furono realizzati le più belle opere boemo - tedesche del periodo biedermeier,  fu uno dei massimi artisti scultori-molatori del vetro mai vissuti al mondo. Fu avviato a tale arte dal padre, altro grande molatore, Wenzel Simm.  Dirisse una prestigiosa manifattura ove si molavano opere a motivi religiosi, scene di caccia, piante ed animali e raramente allegorie. I calici molati a scene allegoriche giunti fino a noi sono estremamente rari e di piccole dimensioni. Non è noto al mondo alcun calice oltre a quello da noi proposto, firmato in originale dalla mano dell'artista raffigurante allegorie di queste dimensioni. Quest'opera, in perfette condizioni di conservazione è alta cm. 17,2 e largo 9.  L'artista morì sempre a Jablonec nad Nisou il 17 marzo 1873.    Le sue opere originali firmate arrivate sino a noi sono estremamente rare.
